NBI clearance verification: step by step (for employers and HR)
The NBI's own portal lists "NBI Clearance Online Verification" among its eServices, with the note that you can check an NBI clearance's authenticity and validity.
Get the clearance from the applicant
Ask for the original or a clear digital copy, including the QR code and the NBI ID number.
Open the official verification service
Go to clearance.nbi.gov.ph and choose NBI Clearance Online Verification under NBI Clearance eServices. The portal first shows its data privacy statement.
Scan the QR code or enter the details the portal asks for,
such as the NBI ID number printed on the clearance.
Compare the result with the paper
The name, photo, ID number and validity should match exactly.
Check the date
Make sure the clearance is recent enough for your purpose. It's generally valid for one year.
What we could confirm. The verification service is listed on the official portal. The exact fields it asks for can change, so follow what the portal shows. We never ask you to enter anyone's clearance details on our site.
Only verify on .gov.ph. Sites that ask you to type in someone's NBI ID number, name or birth date "to verify" are not official and may collect personal data. If a QR code opens any domain that doesn't end in .gov.ph, treat the clearance as suspect.
What's printed on an NBI clearance
A genuine NBI clearance is machine-printed (nothing handwritten) and typically shows:
- Your full name, birth date, birthplace and other personal details from your application
- Your photo, signature and fingerprint captured at the branch
- The purpose you chose when applying
- An NBI ID number and a QR code for verification
- The date of issue, which is what the validity is counted from
- A remark showing the result of the records check
Keep the original safe and give photocopies when you can. The NBI ID number printed on it is useful when you renew.
Signs of a fake clearance
- The QR code is missing, won't scan, or opens a non-government website.
- The details shown online don't match the paper.
- Blurry printing, spelling mistakes or an odd layout.
- The applicant says they got it through an "agent" without going to an NBI office.
Check your own application status
If you applied and want to know where your application is, the place to check is your own account on clearance.nbi.gov.ph, not a verification site.

Can I check online if I have a HIT? A HIT is identified when your record is checked, and the branch tells you when to return. There's no public "HIT checker": sites that claim to check or remove a HIT for you are not official.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a fee to verify an NBI clearance?
No. Scanning the QR code or using the official online verification is free. Never pay a third-party site to "verify" a clearance.
Where is the NBI ID number on the clearance?
It's printed on the clearance itself, together with the QR code. Use the number exactly as printed.
Is there an app for NBI verification?
Verification is on the official portal, clearance.nbi.gov.ph. Separately, verified users of the eGovPH app can renew their NBI clearance and get a digital copy through NBI eClearance. See NBI clearance renewal.
Can I verify an NBI clearance issued years ago?
The verification checks authenticity and validity. An old clearance may show as expired. Most employers want one issued within the last year, or more recently.
Can I verify a police clearance the same way?
The National Police Clearance has its own verification on pnpclearance.ph, using the last name and transaction number. See police clearance verification.
