Female SSS members get a maternity benefit equal to 100% of their average daily salary credit (ADSC) for 105 days for a live birth (normal or caesarean), 120 days for qualified solo parents, or 60 days for miscarriage, emergency termination of pregnancy or stillbirth. To qualify, you need at least 3 monthly contributions in the 12 months before the semester of childbirth, and you must notify your employer (or the SSS if you're self-employed, voluntary, a non-working spouse or an OFW). The maximum is ₱70,000 for a live birth. You file online through My.SSS.

Who qualifies

From the SSS's official maternity benefit page, a female member qualifies if she:

  • has paid at least three monthly contributions in the 12-month period immediately before the semester of childbirth, miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy (ETP). Only contributions paid before that semester count.
  • has notified her employer of the pregnancy and expected date of delivery, if employed.
  • has notified the SSS directly, if she's self-employed, a voluntary member, a non-working spouse or an OFW.

It's granted for every childbirth, miscarriage or ETP, regardless of civil status, employment status, legitimacy of the child or how many pregnancies you've had.

How much you get

CaseDays paid
Live birth (normal or caesarean)105 days
Qualified solo parent (RA 8972)120 days (105 + 15)
Miscarriage, ETP or stillbirth60 days

The daily amount is 100% of your average daily salary credit (ADSC). Only one benefit is paid per delivery, even for twins or triplets.

Employed members get full pay. The employer pays the salary differential (your regular wage minus the SSS benefit) for the whole leave, except distressed establishments, retail or service businesses with 10 or fewer workers, micro-businesses with assets of ₱3 million or less, and employers that already give the same or better benefits. Self-employed, voluntary, non-working spouse and OFW members get the SSS benefit only.

How the SSS computes it

This is the SSS's own method, with its official example:

  1. Find the semester of contingency

A semester is two consecutive quarters ending in the quarter of childbirth. Quarters end in March, June, September and December. A birth in October falls in the quarter October–December, so the semester is July–December.

  2. Count back 12 months

from the month before the semester. For an October birth: the July of the previous year to June of the birth year.

  3. Add your six highest monthly salary credits (MSC)

in those 12 months. For benefits, the MSC counts only up to ₱20,000.

  4. Divide by 180

to get your average daily salary credit (ADSC).

  5. Multiply by 105, 120 or 60 days

The SSS's example. A member gave birth in October 2021. Her six highest MSCs in July 2020 to June 2021 were ₱16,000 each: ₱96,000 ÷ 180 = ₱533.33 a day × 105 days = ₱56,000.

Uses the SSS's official formula and assumes the same salary every month. Runs on your phone only; nothing is sent or saved.

Notify first: the maternity notification

  • Employed: as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed, give your employer a Maternity Notification with proof of pregnancy (a pregnancy test signed by a physician or municipal health officer, or an ultrasound, Beta HCG or early pregnancy factor result). Your employer notifies the SSS through its My.SSS account.
  • Self-employed, voluntary, non-working spouse or OFW: notify the SSS yourself through My.SSS, the SSS Mobile App or a Self-Service Express Terminal.

How to file and get paid

  • Since 1 September 2021, the Maternity Benefit Application is filed online through My.SSS.
  • Employed members: your employer advances the full benefit within 30 days of your maternity leave application, and the SSS reimburses the employer.
  • Separated, unemployed, self-employed, voluntary, OFW and non-working spouse members are paid directly by the SSS.
  • The benefit goes to the bank or e-wallet account you enrolled in the Disbursement Account Enrollment Module (DAEM) in My.SSS. Members can enroll up to three accounts.
  • You can file up to 10 years from the date of delivery, miscarriage or ETP.

Requirements (live birth)

Upload a clear scan of the original or a certified true copy of one of these:

  • the child's Certificate of Live Birth registered with the Local Civil Registrar, with the official or acknowledgement receipt, if you file within six months of delivery
  • the child's PSA birth certificate with the receipt, if you file after six months
  • a Report of Birth from a Philippine embassy or consulate, or the foreign equivalent with an English translation, for births abroad

Qualified solo parents also upload a valid Solo Parent ID or the LGU's certification of eligibility. Members separated from employment upload a Certificate of Separation stating that no advance payment was made.

For miscarriage or ETP, you need proof of pregnancy, proof of termination and a medical certificate, clinical abstract or consultation record, all signed by a physician.

Using the leave

  • For a live birth, the 105 days can be split between before and after delivery, but postnatal leave can't be less than 60 days.
  • You can give up to 7 days of your leave to the child's father (married or not) or a qualified alternate caregiver. This doesn't apply to miscarriage or ETP.
